Content and meaning of food labels

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the content and meaning of food labels. The bachelor thesis is based on a study of the literature on the subject. The information was drawn mainly from the literature and documents provided by the Ministry of Agriculture. Other sources included books, web portals, and legislation. The bachelor thesis has an informational benefit and can serve as a tool for better orientation in food and food labeling. The document provides a compact overview of food labeling in the Czech Republic and relevant information on food labeling issues. The work pursues primarily to consolidate knowledge and convey it in an understandable form to the consumer. The document develops other possible ways to learn more about the problem and work with data in everyday life, not to let ourselves be fooled by sometimes vague markings during shopping.
The use of symbols (markings) on food packaging to facilitate communication with the consumer in relation to his nutritional preferences

The aim of this thesis was to map the prevalence of specific symbols on food packaging related to nutritional preferences of consumers through a comparison of data obtained in selected stores in two countries - Germany and the Czech Republic. An acquaintance with the function of symbols in the market environment, definition of food categories with specific properties and trends in food labeling provides a theoretical foundation for the thesis elaboration. Subsequently, the frequency of the presence of symbols, their structure and forms in selected samples are evaluated. The results also indicate a greater prevalence of symbols on food packaging in Germany than in the Czech Republic. The assessment includes a justification for this finding. Finally, imperfections of the EU legislation related to the use of certain food labels are mentioned.
The influence of marketing on the customer at food choices

The thesis deals with the influence of marketing on the customer in the choice of food. It examines whether the influence of marketing prevails over customer´s own judgment about the choice of appropriate food for daily use in terms of monitoring its nutritional composition. The theoretical part deals with the basics of marketing, with a lot of attention being paid to food goods, food labeling, nutrition and the quality of food products, which can greatly affect the quality of life. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey. The obtained data are processed in the form of tables and graphs, supplemented with verbal commentary. The validity of the set hypotheses is statistically evaluated and processed. Based on the results of the research, at the end of the thesis, the factors influencing the purchasing decision and the individual preferences of the respondents in the food selection are evaluated. The appendix provides an overview of practical information and general advice that should help shoppers to make choices when purchasing basic foods and to better understand the information given on individual product packaging.
Consumer protection in the field of food labeling in Czech Republic

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the perception, importance and knowledge in the field of food labeling in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part at first focuses on an explanation of terms related to this issue - legislation and food labeling requirements. The practical part consists of a research based on a questionnaire survey. The research is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on consumer's interests in the field of informing about food in general, their preferences to food information while doing the shopping and satisfaction with the current labeling system. The aim of the second part of the research is to examine consumer's knowledge of this issue.
Food labeling

The main aim of my thesis is to introduce and analyze the legal field of food labeling. The topic is really current, because the fundamental laws governing the matter, ie. The Act no. 110/1997 Coll. and Regulation no. 1169/2011, were recently revised. This thesis is divided into six parts, which are focused on the main principles and rules of this legal area, sources of law, mandatory and voluntary food labels, a remote sale of food and brands of food quality. At the end of my thesis I summarize the pros and cons of the new legislation and I think about possible amendments, which could be beneficial for both consumers and food business operators.
Legal issue of olive oil labeling

The content of this bachelor thesis is the issue of labeling of olive oil in relation to the ongoing fraud on the market of this commodity. In the first chapter is olive oil basically characterized and its various types are divided according to their quality. Legislation forms the crutial part of the thesis and serves as a base for following chapters. Next part focuses on the situation on the world market of olive oil and explains the reasons for such a comprehensive legislation related to this issue. The last two chapters assess the improvement in the labeling of olive oils on the basis of tests carried out by independent entities and also on the basis of a survey mady by the author.
European Union's Food Safety Policy and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)

This thesis deals with the current food safety policy at the level of the European Union. The first and second parts describe origin of food law and european legal regulations in the field of food safety, the major part of this bachelor thesis is focused on food hygiene and food labeling. I deal with actual cases related to food safety, such as case of methanol (September 2012) or junk food imports from Poland to the Czech Republic. Next section is focused on the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and their activity. The last chapter characterizes food safety in the Czech Republic.
Food from the perspective of nutrition and health claims

The work has been collected basic information on nutrition labeling and health claims in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of their importance for consumers. The main aim of this thesis was to determine the attitude of consumers to the information provided. How are food consumers familiar with these concepts, how they are perceived and whether they are clear and understandable information on the packaging. Subsequently, it was analyzed how selected companies applied nutrition and health claims on the packaging of their products and if they are beneficial for them.
Consumer misleading in the field of food labeling

This thesis deals with consumer misleading in the field of food labeling. The goal of the thesis was to determine specific products that may mislead consumers by their location and label in particular hypermarkets in Prague and Frýdek-Místek. Analysis of the potential misleading of the consumers has three parts -- examining of an obligatory information on the product package, checking of the location of the products in the shops, and the questionnaire. One part of the thesis deals with law (acts, judgements and other regulations) in the field of food labeling and misleading the consumer.
